"One Creator" by Brian K. Raynor

"One Creator" by Brian K. Raynor

I started painting and drawing on pages from an old book again this month. Just an attempt at keeping my creative juices flowing in the evenings after a day of mind numbing routine, without having to get too involved in a "project". The title of each painting comes from a word highlighted on the page. I used to do this as a kid. I call this firey lion "One Creator" and if you examine the page you will find that the words "One" and "Creator" are highlighted with paint.

"The Tired Young Widow" by Brian K. Raynor

"The Tired, Young Widow" is a pencil drawing of my mother.  She was widowed at 34, with 5 children to raise on her own.  Tragically she was only given seven more years with us before her own death.  I know the drawing is not accurate but neither is my memory of  her face.  I remember her love and compassion. Only as an adult have I realized her strength and courage.

"Reduce" by Brian K. Raynor

"Reduce" is Acrylic on paper/page from an old book. Painted May 2013

John 3:30-36

"He must increase, but I must decrease."

Believer or not, the message is simple and true.  We should all strive to be more like this loving and sacrificial Christ and less like the overgrown, self absorbed creatures we are so prone to be.

"Technology Demands Control" by Brian K Raynor

Acrylic Paint, Permanent Marker, and Highlighter on paper.  Painted this ROBOT on page 25 of an old book. Imperfection all over the place.  I do not have the control that technology demands.  I am not a ROBOT!

Culture Initiative is proud to present our 4 year anniversary show, “FOUND”
An evening showcase of assemblage art and eclectic musical talent.

as·sem·blage /əˈsemblij/ - a sculptural composition consisting of an arrangement of miscellaneous objects or found materials.

This show was inspired by the rare occasions we’ve had artists submit work made from found objects. We thought what a great way to challenge artists and make a party out of it.
