"TCB" by Brian K Raynor

"Look out man!"
33 years have gone by since the King of Rock n Roll dropped dead at the age of 42. Even in death Elvis is Taking Care of Business. Sunday evening a crowd estimated at 15,000 defied a 118-degree heat index to memorialize at the gates of Graceland for the annual candlelight vigil that finishes the 2010 Elvis Week festivities. Even in our bad economy the number of attendees has not dropped.
I painted "TCB" in 2008 and sold it to a vixen from Atlanta at the Rockabilly BBQ in Charlotte, NC. I think she bought it for resale.

"Fire & Water" by Brian K Raynor

Painted "Fire & Water" a few years ago. Really a spiritual painting. Trial by fire on Earth and rebirth/resurrection by the Water. The physical beauty and body of woman perishes but the beauty of the soul is triumphant in the afterlife and in the memory of those who love her.

Sold it this year at the 6th Annual Rockabilly BBQ in Charlotte, NC. I think the purchaser's name was Adkins. A big guy that looked like he probably rides a Harley and could put your lights out with one punch. The kind of guy I'd like to be but I don't have the ability to intimidate with a glance nor the muscle to back the glance up.

I actually sold 10 paintings this year at the Rockabilly BBQ. That's down by 10 or 12 from last year. We can blame the slump on the economy. Yeah, that makes me feel better. ;)

"Blue Beard" by Brian K Raynor

"Blue Beard" is part of a piratey trio I painted last year; "Blue Beard", "Erik" and "Genghis". Some 5 year old has got to have these! Hopefully that kid will show up at Puckett's Farm Equipment in Charlotte, NC for the 6th Annual ROCKABILLY BBQ on JUNE 6th and buy all 3.

"Vintage Punk" by Brian K Raynor

I painted "Vintage Punk' several years ago. Used to hang at On Common Grounds Coffee House and Cyber Cafe in Concord, NC until they closed. I sold it last year at the Rockabilly BBQ to a cutie from VA (?). Hooliganism at it's best. Rebellion with a greasy pomp and a blade.

"Bottoms Up!" By Brian K Raynor

Sold this painting to Cindy in Charlotte at the Rockabilly BBQ a couple years ago. Got the idea from an advertisement from the 1920's. The 1920's bathing suit covered much more skin!

"Pretty In Pink" by Brian K. Raynor

"Pretty In Pink" was an attempt at painting a 50's Pin-Up style nude. Didn't want it to be too racey. Sold it at the Rockabilly BBQ 2008. The hotty that bought it said she'd be hanging it in her bathroom. Appropriate.

Vacation to Nowhere

I took the week of June 1-7 off from work (week 1 of 4 vacation time) . With the price of gas so high and my hourly wage not rising with "cost of living" I stayed at home. I mean, I really stayed at home. It was sooo hot and humid all week that it almost took my breath away anytime I opened the front door. So, I watched more daytime tv than I have in years. Jerry Springer, Maurey Povich, all the court tv... the world is going to HELL IN A HANDBASKET!
I did manage to finish up 13 new paintings for the Rockabilly BBQ. I sold 20 or 21! That was a good thing! If I could do that once a week or two I'd be on permanent vacation.

rockabillybabe.com

I got an email from Rockabillybabe.com late yesterday that they have made room for me to vend at this years Rockabilly BBQ at Pucketts Farm Equipment, June 7th in Charlotte, NC. This will be my 3rd year setting up and selling my paintings at that event. So last night I tried to work on some new painting ideas specifically for th BBQ but I just couldn't get into it. So I gave up and pulled out some paintings I've done in years past and wondered why they didn't sell last year or the year before. Should I even bother bringing them to the BBQ again? So today I put in for 5 days off from work the week before the BBQ. I'm hoping I'll get some inspiration and and some new artwork done in that week.
