"The Tired, Young Widow" is a pencil drawing of my mother.  She was widowed at 34, with 5 children to raise on her own.  Tragically she was only given seven more years with us before her own death.  I know the drawing is not accurate but neither is my memory of  her face.  I remember her love and compassion. Only as an adult have I realized her strength and courage.

I painted "Barred Owl" on Saturday, April 21, 2012.  My friends Douglas and Amy Patterson have a family of Barred Owls that have nested on their property for a couple years now.   I sometimes hear owls at night but never see them around my house.   I do see doves, crows, cardinals and an occasional band of wild turkeys but never an owl.

 This is my first painting of 2012.  Painted in January in remembrance of Elvis's birthday.   Acrylic/Mixed Media on stretched canvas.  Headlines ripped from the pages of a "vintage" NATIONAL ENQUIRER.  It's obvious that Elvis did not die - how else would he be spotted at Wal-Mart?   Drugs or UFOs took the KING from his spotlight.   He is gone but not forgotten (as the old saying goes).

Another anniversary of my mother's death.  

There is no heart heavier than that of a child who has lost his mother.  

I will never forget that sad day.

More than that day I will never forget the loving and self sacrificing person that I called "Momma".

 "Old, Familiar Faces" will be auctioned along with many other paintings, on FRIDAY June 17, 2011 to help raise money for the The American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer".   It is 12" x 12" Acrylic on stetched canvas.  There are so many places and faces that we ALL hope to see for the first time or once more before life is over.   An end to this horrible disease before  the  year 2006 would've given  40,820 American women who died from breast cancer in that year, so many more opportunities to see the faces and places that they loved and hoped to see for so many years to come.

It will debut as part of a HEART MOSAIC at the American Cancer Society’s Survivor’s Dinner, to be held on June 17th 2011 at the Wachovia Atrium in Charlotte, NC. 100 paintings by 100 artist will make up the HEART MOSAIC. All ARTWORK will be sold/auctioned to raise money to help win the battle against breast cancer.

Slim Whitman is one of my favorite country music icons.

'Ottis Dewey Whitman' Jr was born January 20, 1924, in Tampa, FL. Known professionally as Slim Whitman, he is an American country songwriter and musician, known for his yodeling. Whitman is a right handed but a self-taught left-handed guitarist. He lost almost all of the second finger on his left hand in an accident. He has sold in excess of 120 million albums in unit sales and has had numerous successful recordings. He is consistently more popular throughout Europe, and in particular Britain, than in the US.

I saw this guy and I don't think he really saw me. He was in some hopeless , dark place - somewhere in his own depressed, forsaken, and I'm quite sure, drug addicted soul. A living corpse- unaware that he was decaying, as his nicotene stained fingers raised a crushed cigarette butt from the sidewalk to his lips.

Celebrity Image

The photographs of pop sensation Justin Bieber with his 18 year old "girlfriend" Selena Gomez make me want to throw up! It all looks way too contrived. Seeing that kid with his shirt off makes me think of the animated character Montgomery Burns from the Simpsons. Another reason for celebrities to keep their ROCK STAR clothes on!
